Performing Arts: Presenters and MC
PRESENTERS & MC's

A master of ceremonies (also used in its abbreviated forms MC or emcee) or compère is the official host of a staged event or similar performance.

An MC usually presents performers, speaks to the audience, entertains people, and generally keeps the event moving. An MC may also tell jokes or anecdotes.

At events presenters and MC’s may be an actor, model, sportsperson, singer, comedian, etc. by profession. Others may be subject matter experts, such as scientists or politicians, serving as presenters or public speakers at events.  Some are celebrities who have made their name in one area, and may appear at a function either as a guest or as guest speaker.

A television presenter is a person who introduces or hosts television programs, including factual documentaries, live events and sport. The same applies to a Radio presenter.

The term does not apply to reading the news however. This role is known as an anchor, or as a newsreader. A quiz show host is sometimes described as a presenter.
