Financially Speaking: Is it Worth it?

Financially Speaking:  Is it Worth it?

The potential to earn very good money as a Performer is certainly a reality!  However, with only a small percentage of entertainers making lots of money, is it worth pursuing Performance Art - even with all of the financial uncertainty?  YES!  You really can’t put a price tag on having the chance to pursue a passion and live a dream.  Honestly, I don’t think that you should let “money” prevent you from doing anything in life.  Whether or not you ultimately make millions in entertainment (which is certainly possible), we only live once!

But (and there is a big “but” on this one):  the reality is that you need to have money in order to survive, to have security, and to have options.  Only you can decide what is best for you, and what you’re willing to sacrifice in order to be on this pursuit.  There is always a trade-off, and financial struggles are certainly one of them.  You must ask yourself what are your reasons why you want to pursue a career as a Performer in the first place, and be realistic in weighing out the difficulties that you may face.  Really think about what you’re willing (and not willing) to put up with.

There are many times when you might feel helpless (due in large part to lack of money).  It can be an immensely scary feeling.  However, if you make the choice to absolutely commit to this career, you will get through the tough times.  It will take everything that you’ve got to keep moving forward at times.

The Bottom Line

You will be successful as a Performer if you work hard, keep good people around you, do at least one thing towards your career every day and never give up.
