AUDITIONS: Be You
Embracing your individuality and being true to yourself is a recipe for success in all areas of life. This principle of course applies to acting and entertainment. Standing out as a Performer in the entertainment industry is achieved by being honest with yourself about who you are. If you don’t know who you are, you need to find out who you are.
Showing who you are, and owning your “choices” can make it or break it when it comes to an audition! Performers often try and give what they think a Casting Director wants. If you keep doing that, rather than being yourself, they’ll never know who you are.
Most Performers want to have the opportunity to portray all different types of characters. That is a big reason why Performing is so much fun! You can play those characters, but you’re still the same person inside. The core of who you are will always stay the same. Keep the core of who you are the same, and then you act from that person, because no two people are ever alike. The point is that you don’t need to “try” to be different. You already are unique, which makes you different.
And you can’t be afraid of making a mistake, or “messing up” in an audition.. The messing up comes from when you’re not centered and grounded in who you are.
