HIGHLIGHTS OF SOUTHERN TUSCANY - 4 days/3 nights

  • Cortona is a small charming town in the Valdichiana, or Chiana Valley, in the province of Arezzo in southern Tuscany.

  • The city, enclosed by stone walls dating back to Etruscan and Roman times, sits on the top of a hill about 600 meters (about 1968 feet) above sea level.

  • This dominant position over the valley offers a spectacular view from all over the town of the surrounding valley and even Lake Trasimeno.

Day 1    Cortona

  • Arrival on own at the railway station of Camucia/Cortona and take a prearranged taxi for a 10 minutes drive to reach Hotel Villa Marsili.

  • Dinner including local wine at a local restaurant, within walking distance from your Hotel.

  • Overnight.

Day 2 Montepulciano - Pienza

  • Breakfast and departure for a full day tour of Montepulciano and Pienza  by driving guide.

  • This tour starts with a visit to the amazing medieval village of  Montepulciano in the heart of the Orcia Valley, known all over the world for its wine and its pecorino sheep cheese.

  • One of the highest Tuscan hills towns, Montepulciano is built along a narrow tufa ridge.

  • It is a stunningly good – looking town, full of vistas, odd squares and corners and endowed with dozens of Renaissance Palazzi and churches.

  • Our first stop is San Biagio located on the outskirts.

  • Free time for lunch on your own.

  • After lunch your explorations will continue to the upper portion of the town. Montepulciano is famous for its vino nobile, a full-bodied red wine, so a visit would not be complete without a tasting.

  • We will indeed have a chance to savor this wonderful red in one of the unique wine cellars located in tufa caves beneath the city, perhaps served with a piece of pecorino cheese from Pienza! Later we proceed to the Historic Centre of the City of Pienza.

  • Return to your Hotel in Cortona  in the late afternoon. Dinner on own.

  • Overnight.

Day 3 Cooking Class - Cortona
