We in the Southern Hemisphere welcome Spring ! Personally it cannot have come too soon.Our garden is sporting colour from our glorious Clivias and the fragrance from the Jasmine and Yesterday,Today and Tomorrow fill the warming air. Are we not fortunate ? Enough of the strife and busy-bodying politicians who want to drop bombs on people just to make a point! Winston Churchill once said "Better to Jaw Jaw than War War !!! and they called him a 'war monger'! I love books ! I wish I could read them all ! But these days,when cataloging,I get my reading quota from the dust jackets or the introduction. In so doing this I came across the other day, a reprinted book written by Rudyard Kipling.No not "Kim" or any of his other stories for younger people but a military book.He is certainly known for his journalism as a war correspondent during the "Boer War" but a 'History of the Irish Guards 1914-1919' ? but there was a very good reason for this book and it concerned his only son,John Kipling,who was killed at Loos in 1915 as a 2nd Lieutenant, aged 18 years and one month old and whose final resting place in a war grave cemetary in France was not identified until 1992!.A story within a story also featuring Lord Roberts.Amazing how many incidents have their connections with Southern Africa.If you want to read more about this click onto my book blog...."Doug's Africana and Collectable Books" My point ...there are so many wonderful books about our country but I can still learn new things from the dust jacket.
