Johannes found himself deep in the film industry as soon as he stepped out of the Academy and onto the streets of Toronto. Eventually, his professionalism and friendly, cooperative demeanour have taken him from Vancouver, Canada to Cape Town, South Africa.
In 2006, Johannes moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba, to find work. He quickly landed on the set of Peach Arch Entertainment’s feature film, Grizzly Rage. Director David DeCoteau and Second Assistant Cameraman Jason Heke took Johannes under their wing. Johannes was only supposed to be on set for the day, but he ended up spending his whole summer shooting on the ambitious project. The production was a $2 million full high definition film which was released worldwide.
Once the film wrapped, Johannes moved back to Toronto to pursue his career further. But his life took a huge turn when he received a call from Carnival Corporation & plc (Princess Cruises line), inviting him to come aboard a grand class ship as an official Videographer. His duties would involve overseeing all areas of production to post and create what the company called the “Reflections DVD,” which would be distributed and sold to all passengers. Johannes took on the challenge without hesitation. While aboard the Crown Princess, Johannes filmed off and on the ship, from tour excursions to the ship’s main events. Johannes continued in this role for the next two years, boarding the Island Princess, Crown Princess and the Grand Princess. He has filmed on the glaciers of Alaska and the warm beaches of the Bahamas, on the surreal streets of Bermuda and the frenetic boulevards of New York City.
In 2008, Johannes decided to step off the ships and return to Canada. He began working with ES Team Productions on their reality show Miss Latina Canada. The show was to go national and Johannes wanted to be a part of its success. Starting out as a volunteer on the show, he quickly became an asset to its production; he now stands as one of the Miss Latina Canada’s key players. Johannes now serves as the Camera Consultant for future recording and has been asked back for season two.
With season one of Miss Latina Canada going to air, Johannes was soon approached by Quiet City Design, one of the premier graphics houses in Toronto. The company director, Len Marshall, was to oversee all design aspects of the upcoming “Harvest of Hope” congress being held by the Salvation Army at the Metro Toronto Convention Center. Johannes was tasked with overseeing all video production with cinematographer Shawn Batten. Filming and editing all of the interviews with the top men and women involved, Johannes was contracted for full postproduction and production work.
Johannes was finally ready to take his next and biggest step, and with all his projects wrapped he made the move to South Africa. Inspired by the excitement of the Cape Town Film Studio and the natural beauty of the country, Johannes was sure that the South African experience would further his skills as a filmmaker. With South Africa as his base, Johannes is working to establish himself as both a professional filmmaker and a true artist in the post-production environment.
