Franz Hartmann (1838 - 1912) was a Bavarian-American physician. He emigrated to the USA in 1865, where he developed an interest in spiritualism. In 1883, he journeyed to the headquarters of the theosophical Society in India. Hartmann and Blavatsky did not see eye-to-eye. However, after Blavatsky died, the society divided itself into two groups, one was led by Hartmann. He was a prolific writer and wrote biographies on both Parcelsus and Jacob Boehme. He also wrote extensively on Rosicrucianism and Alchemy. Sadly, during world war II, the Nazi's took objection to his work and burned what could be found of it. Hence, original volumes, such as this one are scarce. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Black Cloth + Gilt. Jacket: No Jacket. The couple swore eternal fidelity to each other, but also swore to never, ever, under any circumstances get legally married. But when the U.S. government gave the couple a choice: they could either get married, or Felipe would never be allowed to enter the country again, they were effectively sentenced to wed, forcing Gilbert to tackle her fears of marriage. The result is Committed – a witty and intelligent contemplation of marriage that suggests that sometimes even the most romantic of souls must trade in her amorous fantasies for the humbling responsibility of adulthood. Gilbert's memoir is ultimately a celebration of love – with all the complexity and consequence that real love, in the real world, actually entails. Unused.
