The Yorkshire Terrier, affectionately known as a Yorkie, is a British toy dog breed of terrier type. Here are some key facts about this delightful companion:
  • Origin: The Yorkshire Terrier originated in the nineteenth century in the English county of Yorkshire, after which it is named.
  • Size and Appearance:
    • Yorkies are among the smallest of all dog breeds, weighing no more than 3.2 kg (7 lb).
    • Their coat is tan on the head and dark steel-grey on the body; no other color is accepted.
  • Temperament:
    • Yorkies are playful, energetic, and usually kept as companion dogs.
    • They have contributed to the development of other breeds, including the Silky Terrier and cross-breeds like the Yorkipoo.
  • History: The breed originates from two distinct dogs, a male named Old Crab, a female named Kitty, and another female whose name is not known. It was improved significantly in Yorkshire.
  • Fun Fact: In the early days, almost anything resembling a terrier with a long coat, blue body, and fawn or silver-colored head and legs was admired as a Yorkshire Terrier.
These little Yorkies bring joy to families and thrive on human companionship! 🐾❤️
