Cofek will, jointly with the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), conduct a Consumers Dialogue Forum (CDF) webinar on implementation of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) regulations on Monday, June 15, 2020 from 8.30 am to 11.30 am.
The CDF session will seek to accord consumers and various other stakeholders an opportunity to relay their experience on the set of laws.
Panelists will include the EPRA director general Mr Pavel Oimeke and other experts on LPG. The forum will focus on stakeholders in Isiolo, Wajir, Mandera, Wajir and other Northern Kenya counties.
Some of the forbidden actions including refilling of a cylinder by a person or entity other than the brand owner or refilling of a cylinder without the prior written consent from the brand owner provided that such consent shall have been submitted to the Authority.
Refilling of a cylinder that does not bear the embossed markings of the brand or trade name or is defaced, tampered or bears illegible markings; or refilling of a cylinder from a facility or such other source that is not licensed by the regulator constitutes a punishable offence.
The forum will further seek to create an opportunity for information, education and awareness on the provisions of the law. Other issues of importance will revolve around quality, safety and seamless access to LPG.

16 JUNE WEBINAR
8H30 TO 11H30 local Time
Cofek, NuPEA webinar on 'State of nuclear energy in Kenya'

Cofek will host an insightful webinar on the 'State of nuclear energy in Kenya' on June 16 from 8.30 am to 11.30 am. The event, a partnership with the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA), seeks to bring together at least 100 stakeholders in Mombasa, Kisumu and 18 other Counties to discuss and derive a way forward on the state of nuclear energy.
Nuclear energy professionals, practitioners and related stakeholders are requested to express interest to participate - especially those from Mombasa and Kisumu Counties where the pilot nuclear projects are sited.
NuPEA is a State Corporation established under the Energy Act 2019. It is charged with the responsibility of promoting and implementing Kenya’s nuclear power programme, carrying out research and development for the energy sector. It is a successor to the former Kenya Nuclear Electricity Board.
On the nuclear sub-sector, the passage of Nuclear Regulatory Bill among other developments call for updates from NuPEA. Feedback derived from such meetings will inform NuPEA and the Ministry of Energy on the smooth implementation and rollout priorities.
Cofek is particularly keen that consumers are fully involved and informed on the ongoing rollout of the pilot projects in Mombasa and Kisumu.
The agency headed by Eng Collins Juma, a former Chairman of the Institution of Engineers (IEK), has already identified sites for nuclear power plants in Kenya.
Cofek supports the exploration of nuclear electricity in Kenya but is concerned at the safety and limited awareness among Kenyans. The Federation has requested for a partnership with the agency to consider town hall forums in Kisumu and Mombasa.
The Vienna based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) coordinates development of nuclear power plants worldwide.
