How to Apply to ICASA for your Radio License

Please follow the steps detailed below on the ICASA Online Portal at:
 
Note:
1. ICASA does not accept manual applications
2. You must use Google Chrome as your browser.
HOW TO GUIDELINE STEPS TO FOLLOW
DESCRIPTION ON WHY THE STEP IS NEEDED
Step 1: Click here https://online.icasa.org.za/
Step 1: You need to REGISTER as a user on the ICASA system 
 
Step 2: After registering check your email and confirm your account.
Step 2: You must CONFIRM YOUR ACCOUNT
because it is required to be able to LOG IN.
  • Check your Junk Mail as ICASA is not likely to be one of your established contacts.
 
Step 3:  Go to https://online.icasa.org.za/Account/Login and LOG IN with your Username and Password
Step 3: You need to LOG IN.
  • Unless your account has been confirmed by e-mail to you you cannot LOG IN.
Step 4: After you have logged in, for the first time, you will be prompted to submit your companies details for verification and approval.
Step 4: Only approved companies are allowed to submit applications
  • Only after approval has been granted by ICASA will your company be allowed to make an application.
  • You can submit an application on behalf of an approved company (if you are approved to do so) or you can submit the application as the approved company.
Step 5: Application
  • Select RADIO FREQUENCY SPECTRUM
  • Click on the option: APPLY
  • Scroll down and click on the option: AERONAUTICAL > AIRCRAFT STATION & SUBMIT
Step 5:  Follow the prompts to complete the application process.
Step 6: Provide the information requested & SUBMIT
Step 6: Provide general details, licensing period, postal code of your address, etc. 
  • Note that the purpose of service is:
    • AIRCRAFT, AIR RADIO COMMUNICATION
Step 7: Upload
  • Copy of your ID
  • CAA confirmation of your CALL SIGN
  • Proof of Payment (Fees payable depend on the options selected and thus to be certain of the current fees payable, from time to time, please verify the amount payable on the ICASA site)
Step 7: Upload the required supporting documents
  • There is an Application Fee and a Licensing Fee which will be invoiced separately
  • The best is to make two separate payments via credit card as this will not require approval before the process continues.
  • If you pay by EFT or direct deposit your payment will have to be cleared by the ICASA Finance Department and you will need confirmation from them which may take time to receive.
Step 8: Manage your application by responding to e-mails that you may receive and you can LOG IN and select the option to MANAGE page when you are logged in.
Step 8: ICASA advise that the application process should take about 10 to 15 days however you can expect delays if the steps as outlined are not followed correctly.
  • The COVID Pandemic has caused delays beyond the normal processing time and the CAA will accept your proof of payment to ICASA in lieu of the actual license.
  • Should you be planning a cross border flight then you will need an issued license as the proof of payment will not be accepted.
